Happy Birthday Dad

Today is my dad’s 69th birthday. Mary, my step-mom, had a small surprise gathering planned for this afternoon. She called me about it on Wednesday. Not surprising is that dad knew about it as early as Thursday.

He told Mary that he wanted to go to Fort Wayne for his birthday, eat somewhere nice and meander about town. So Mary naturally spilled the beans about today. I told her that she just isn’t sneaky enough.

Had it been me, I would have agreed with him. “Why yes, that sounds like a great idea. How about we leave at 11:00, or would you rather go a little earlier than that?” Then I would wake up ‘sick’ Sunday morning, and ask if we could just do it next weekend instead.

Yeah, I can be sneaky; I get it from my dad. Pretty cool huh?

It’s my dad’s birthday, we’re at his house, and he gives ME a gift. Go figure. He and Mary bought something for me to thank me for taking care of their computer so promptly when it broke a couple of weeks ago.

It’s a 40th anniversary Type II Phaser from Star Trek. It has realistic lights and sound, plus a detachable Type I Phaser. Awesome! Thanks guys! They bought it from someplace called What on Earth, which I hadn't heard of before today. I'll have to check them out.

Anyway, it was a nice visit; it’s always good to spend family time. Happy birthday dad!
