Is There Really Nothing To Do?

I don’t understand why people say that, “There’s nothing to do in Peru.” If there actually was nothing going on, or next to nothing, then I would be a believer. But I’m not a believer, because there are tons of things to do!

As the webmaster for Miami County, I update the community calendar page. There are currently 77 different events taking place that are open to the community. Many of these last for more than one day, and many of these encompass several things to do. For example the 4-H Fair lasts for about a week, features exhibits of all kinds, tractor shows, demolition derbies, rides, carnival games, and much more.

The above referenced page doesn’t include things like the several productions that Ole Olson puts on during the year, nor does it include the many activities that our local churches have. I’m sure that for every thing listed there is at least one more that I don’t know about. Many of the local businesses have events too.

Garden Gate Greenhouse, for one, offers free workshops that teach you how to have a more successful garden and on properly freezing your harvest. The link to their site will be http://www.gardengategreenhouseinc.com/ and it will be online by March 14. How do I know? Because I’m the one building their website, that’s how. If you want one of your own, visit http://www.globalme.biz/ for more info.

Something else not covered by ‘events’ would be places. We have the Nickel Plate Trail, Mississinewa Reservoir and spillway, Seven Pillars, Miami Nation of Indians, the Miami County Museum with two floors of displays, Bunker Hill Drag Strip, Miami County Speedway, and the River Walkway to name a few.

So, before you say, “There’s nothing to do,” why not open your eyes a little and take in just a few of the many things that our community has to offer.
