What a beautiful day this was. I’m maybe starting to sound like a broken record (a broken WHAT?!) with my constant raving about the incoming weather patterns, but hey I like the warmth. Cold sucks, plain and simple.
The three of us took a nice long walk this afternoon, down to the river walkway, all the way down the walkway, then back home. We stopped off at Miami’s Fort so Morgan could play for about half an hour.
Later, I took Morgan out shooting for the first time. Yeah, she’s eleven and you may be thinking I should have done this long ago, but Keri Beri wasn’t comfortable with it. Besides, we just used a BB gun today.
Morgan did great! It took her a few shots to get used to the weapon, but once she started zinging that empty pop can, she just kept on going. Each successful shot she took I had her take a step farther back from the target, so she was hitting at a decent distance when we stopped for the night.
This was a great chance for me to teach her gun safety. I realize that it is a BB gun, but they can still be dangerous if handled improperly. All the rules of gun safety certainly apply to this gun, and if she learns them now she will remember them when she moves up to .22, 9mm, etcetera.
I am really proud of her, she listened very well to my instructions and she seems like a natural at shooting. Keri and I used to shoot together when we were younger, but she lost all interest in guns when she became pregnant with Morgan. Strange…
I’m hoping that we might all shoot together as a family sometime fairly soon. That would be excellent indeed.
