Today we began a bold new project; the revamping of out utility room; paint, baseboards, and a new cabinet system. Not too heavy of a project, right?
So why don’t things go as expected? Sanding the ‘cottage cheese’ off the ceiling seemed to take forever, and the cleanup of that dreadful mess even longer. We bought this textured paint to put on the ceiling, it looks like wet sand. We wanted this to cover the minor imperfections left from the old, but that didn’t go as planned either.
The guy at Lowes said to roll it on with ½ inch nap roller. I poured some into our paint tray liner, the tray seems to have been abducted by aliens since we last used it, and tried to roll it on the ceiling.
Yack! It was like trying to paint with cement! The crazy thing was when I rolled, it seemed to peel the old paint up as it went, giving a horrible splotchy look to the entire area.
Tomorrow I’m going to paint the walls while Keri goes to Kokomo to pick op the cabinets we decided on yesterday. By we I mean she. She’ll pick out our new baseboards and bring them home too.
I will paint the ceiling with primer or white paint, let it dry and set completely and then try painting the textured stuff on again. I think that the paint will seal the ceiling, giving the cement stuff something better to hold onto. My fingers are crossed.
I am expecting that the project will go more smoothly tomorrow (waves hand) “You will go smoothly tomorrow.”
