Arizona Immigration Law SB1070

Everyone else is sounding off on this, so I figure I might as well put in my two cents worth as well.

Arizona Immigration Law SB1070 does, in a nutshell, make it illegal to live in or travel through Arizona unless you're a US citizen. Bravo Arizona!

Living in Indiana like I do, I don't see the effects of illegal immigrants as strongly as a resident of Arizona would. In fact most of us live in states where the problem isn't very bad at all because of our distance from foreign borders.

How many times has our government told us they're going to do something to protect and enhance our lives, only to do something completely different when the time actually comes? I lost count a long time ago.

Now enter Arizona. Actually doing something to help its citizenry. Trying to solve a problem that plagues everyone in that state. Taking a stand for its taxpayers when the federal government wont.

California has counties threatening to BOYCOTT Arizona over this. Seriously?! This is a prime example of defending the taxpayers, why would you boycott that? Some groups are saying that this is an excuse for Arizona to do racial profiling against Hispanics, but people are going to profile other people regardless of if they have an excuse or not, it's one of the dark sides of human nature. What it is is an excuse for the voting, taxpaying citizens of Arizona to actually be protected by their state's government. Do we really need an excuse for that now?

So, let's all go tell our friends that Arizona is doing the right thing, and if you have a chance to support that brave state then by all means do so.

Upcoming Miami County Libertarian Meetings

Our next meeting is March 22 at 6:00 pm in the upstairs meeting room of the Peru Public Library.

We will have another meeting at the same location on Monday April 12 starting at 6:00 pm.

This extra meeting allows us to get better prepared for the state convention at the end of next month.

If you or anyone you know is wanting to make a difference in our county, there are over 100 offices to run for; from township advisory board to prosecutor and almost everywhere in between. We also have candidates that will need help with their campaigns.

If you're not interested in any of that, we could still use the moral support and you passing along the message of liberty to your friends and family.

I hope to see you there!

MCLP March Meeting

I thought I'd toss a quick post on here to remind everyone about the next meeting of the Miami County Libertarian Party.

That meeting is being held tonight, March 8, at 6:00 pm in the upstairs meeting room of the Peru Public Library.

I hope to see you there!

Full Body Scans at the Indianapolis International Airport

I've been quiet for too long. But something has arisen that I feel I MUST speak out against, I must let as many people know about this as is possible.

In response to the December 2009 terrorist attack by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has ordered the use of full body scanners at airports across our nation, including Indianapolis International.

What does this mean to you? Well, these scanners emit very high frequency radio waves that reflect off a person and create a digital image. This image is in effect a nude image of the person being scanned. This means that when you pass through such scanners a digital picture of your naked body is generated for the TSA to view. This is not being done to individuals who warrant a closer examination due to something suspicious, EVERYONE who boards the plane is being forced to suffer this humiliating indignity.

There are a lot of problems with this. The obvious one is that people are looking at pictures of our naked bodies without our knowledge or consent. Secondly, our private medical information is revealed to whomever views these images; colostomy bags, mastectomies, Depends undergarment, breast and penile implants, catheter tubes, the size of breasts and genitals, and a lot more.

Another big problem is that this information isn't as secure as the TSA tries to convince us. As an IT professional I can tell you that no data can be completely secure, and just by the very nature of these images I think we all know that some of them will end up on the Internet for all to see.

But here's the kicker folks; the darn things don't even do a good job of detecting threats. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab had the explosives woven into his underpants, these types of scanners would not have even identified them!

It's time to stand up, speak out, and be heard people! This is a link to a form letter. Print it out and send it to Senator Luger, Senator Bayh, and the Indianapolis Airport Authority. As citizens we simply cannot and should not accept this disgusting assault on our privacy.
